The Museo del Prado in Madrid opened in 1819 and has since exhibited the Spanish royal collection, which currently comprises more than 7,600 paintings, 1,000 sculptures, 4,800 prints and 8,200 sketches.
Out of that huge collection, the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo, is highlighting Spain's "top three" painters, El Greco (1541-1614), Diego Velazquez (1599-1660) and Francisco Goya (1746-1828), as well as other big names, including "Spanish Raphael" Bartolome Esteban Murillo (1618-1682) and other European masters such as Hieronymus Bosch (1450-1516) and Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640).
