Sept. 19-Nov. 29
This is not the first time The Museum of Ceramic Art, Hyogo, has held an exhibition of Tamba pottery, but its curators believe there is still plenty more to be fascinated by in the local works' fine texture, color and shape. To celebrate the museum's 10th anniversary, this show focuses on understanding of the beauty of historical Tamba pieces.
Produced in Tachikui, in Hyogo Prefecture, Tamba pottery has a history of more than 800 years and was originally influenced by Sueki ceramics made in Harima province around the 11th century. Many historical figures have been fascinated by the style's rustic aesthetics, including philosopher Soetsu Yanagi, photographer Ken Domon and archaeologist Shoichi Narasaki.
