Since its foundation, The Museum of Modern Art, Shiga, has used three key themes when considering its acquisitions: "modern Japanese paintings," "art of the province" and "contemporary art."
However, though the museum owns more than 10 works by some of the artists that it showcases, there have been few opportunities for the museum to exhibit large selections from its own collection.
For this introduction to some of its best pieces, the museum is displaying the work of eight well-known artists — Seiken Tomita, Chikudo Kishi, Kojin Sawa, Jutaro Kuroda, Shozan Sugita, Constantin Brancusi, Toshinobu Onosato and Mitsuo Kano — each within their own section of the exhibition. Around 200 works in total will be on show.
