April 25-Aug. 30
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, which it is commemorating with a number of exhibitions that encourage visitors to explore the meaning of the word "contemporary."
"In Our Time," the first in the series, looks at the notion of Japan as a post-industrial society by focusing on four keywords — "everyday," "region," "relation" and "media." The evolution of human connections, through things such as social networking and smartphones, for example, is discussed, along with the rise in the number of solitary deaths in Japan.
Featured artists include Lyota Yagi, who is known for installations using electronic products; Naohiro Ukawa, the multimedia artist of streaming website Dommune; and sculptor Teppei Kaneuji.
