April 18-June 28
In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Suzanne Valadon (1865-1938) — a model, muse and accomplished self-taught artist — this exhibition brings together nearly 40 of her works, with others by her son Maurice Utrillo (1883-1955).
Utrillo, who was taught by his mother, became well-known for his subdued and subtle scenic paintings of Paris, while Suzanne's work, particularly her portraits, were, in contrast, bold and vibrant. Some of Valadon's works in this show of primarily oil paintings are on loan from private collections and are being exhibited in Japan for the first time.
