March 7-April 6
This show of sculptures and paintings from the Nezu Museum's collection focuses on bodhisattvas, Buddhist deities who willingly descend into the human realm to experience the joy and sorrow of humankind and lead people to enlightenment.
There are many bodhisattvas, including Kannon (Avalokiteshvara, God of Mercy), who takes numerous forms, Jizo (Kshitigarbha), who rescues those who have fallen into hell, and the meditational deities Monju (Manjushri) and Fugen (Samantabhadra). Around 40 works, from the Nara Period (710 to 794) to the Muromachi Period (1392 to 1573), will be on display.
