Feb. 25-March 15
The first "Nihon Dento Kogei Ten" art-and-craft exhibition was established in 1954 to help foster and pass down the skills of Japanese traditional crafts. This 61st edition features 320 works created by designated living national treasures as well as by today's young artists representative of such crafts.
Divided into seven categories — ceramics, textiles, urushi (lacquerware), metalwork, dolls, woodwork and bamboo, and others — pieces on display reveal the extraordinary technical skill of each artist, while also demonstrating how traditional crafts may be adapted for modern society.
