The Kyoto National Museum recently opened its new Heisei Chishinkan wing with the special exhibition "Kyoto: Splendors of the Ancient Capital," and it is now continuing the celebration with "Masterpieces of Kosan-ji Temple" in its main Meiji Kotokan building.
Though full of national treasures, the major highlight of this show is "Scrolls of Frolicking Animals and Humans ("Choju Jinbutsu Giga"), believed to be the original inspiration of manga comic books. All editions of the series, which were under restoration until the spring of 2013, will be on display; Oct. 7-Nov. 24.
