Director: Jon S. Baird
Language: English
Scabrous Scottish author Irvine Welsh's 1998 novel finally gets a screen adaptation, with James McAvoy playing a plainclothes detective who's a twisted ball of rage. He's a racist, sexist, homophobic hedonist. Director Jon Baird is faithful to the source material, and attempts to infuse the squalid material with some black humor and mad hyperrealism that wouldn't seem out of place in "A Clockwork Orange." Don't expect a happy ending.
