Shima Spain Village amusement park in Mie Prefecture is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, with a series of events that include the introduction of new parades, anniversary decorations and menus featuring special meals in its restaurants.

Shima Spain Village opened on April 22, 1994, and now consists of three resort facilities, including the Parque Espana theme park that features more than 20 attractions.

Parque Espana's renowned parade has undergone a major renewal for the first time in 12 years to commemorate the occasion, and now features 3-meter tall puppets, renovated floats and dance performances inspired by Spain's bullfighting tradition, as well as the original well-known Fiesta de San Fermin festivities.

Special menus include paella with fresh vegetables and a side of ribs, and specially designed pancakes and popcorn served in limited-edition buckets.

If you were born on April 22, 1994 — the day the park opened — you are in luck. Shima Spain Village will be giving away 10-year passports and special gift coupons for those who celebrate their 20th birthday at the amusement park on the day.

The Shima Spain Village 20th anniversary celebrations run until Jan. 18, 2015. Opening hours vary depending on the day. One-day passports are ¥4,800 for adults, ¥3,800 for children between ages 12 and 17, and ¥3,200 for those between 11 and 4. For more information visit www.parque-net.com
