"End Of Watch" didn't get much of a theatrical release here, but it's a decent stab at breathing life into the buddy-cop genre. Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena star as a couple of gung-ho LAPD officers who bite off more than they can chew when they mess with a Mexican cartel's operations. Half the fun comes from Gyllenhall and Pena's in-car banter, largely improvised, funny and foul. With choppy, documentary-style handheld camerawork, every pistol-forward turn of a corner seem urgent.
