Chill out in Hokkaido's Furano and embrace winter at the annual Furano Kan Kan Mura Snow Night Fantasy, which kicks off on Dec. 21.
Attractions include Japan's longest snow-tubing ride, where participants can slide downhill for 201-meters on a large tire inner tube, snow rafting and banana boat and snowmobile rides, which will be available at the playground. If you are lucky, you might also come across some of Hokkaido's wildlife, such as red foxes, weasels and white rabbits hopping outside.
Once the outdoor fun heats you up, relax and cool down inside any of the number of snow huts, or enjoy drinks at the Snow Dome, a bar space created out of snow blocks. Some of the beverages will be served in ice mugs as well.
Entry is free for the opening day on Dec. 21, with a special ceremony taking place from 7 p.m. Dress warm — temperatures can go as low as -30 degrees Celsius.
Furano Kan Kan Mura Snow Night Fantasy takes place at the New Furano Prince Hotel from Dec. 21 to March 9 (4 p.m. to 8 p.m.) Entrance is ¥300, but elementary school children and younger can enter for free. The fee includes one ride on the snow tube. For more details, contact Furano's Tourism Association at 0167-22-5777
