"Pink" is the second of Kyoko Okazaki's manga to be translated into English by Vertical books. First published in Japan in 1989 the gritty, highly sexual tale is a classic of the josei manga (women's comics) genre, and has been hailed as a statement on how the rapid consumerism of the time effected the psyche of young Japanese women.
Yumi is an OL (office lady) by day but, in order to pay for the luxurious lifestyle she leads, also works as a prostitute by night. She keeps a crocodile as a pet and fantasizes about feeding it the misogynistic, hypocritical old men who use her services — making "Pink" a fairly vicious critique on Japan's bubble economy of the '80s and well worth a look.
