If you're out of ideas for gifts this Christmas, photographic art specialists Subject Matter and creative agency UltraSuperNew's Pop Up Gallery is worth a visit.
Curated by Liezel Strauss, founder of Subject Matter Art & My Japan, items for sale range from limited-edition, framed photographic prints to kids' clothing.
Every item has been chosen for the quality of its design but also for its originality, with most pieces being hand crafted. There are baskets and bracelets woven out of telephone wire from South Africa, vintage obi-fabric clutch bags, colorful statement jewelry pieces from Australia's 2 by Lyn & Tony, hand-stitched sumo cushions, South African home decor by Clinton Friedman and more. The photographic prints will also rotate during the exhibition, and include those by Mark Mawson, Philip Miller and Francesco Libassi.
These are designer works, so prices range from around ¥1,000 up to the ¥10,000s — but you're likely to be getting a special one-of-the-kind gift.
Pop Up Gallery & Shop is at 1-1-3 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo. It's open until Dec. 22 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., closed Mon. For more information, visit subjectmatterart.com.
