Much like "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford," director Andrew Dominik's "Killing Them Softly" stars Brad Pitt and resembles a genre film (gangsters) while not delivering the thrills. Pitt plays a mob enforcer who has to clean up when a gambling den run by Ray Liotta is robbed by a pair of bungling amateurs (Scoot McNairy, Ben Mendelsohn). It's your basic post-Tarantino gangster gab-fest, but worth a look for one of James Gandolfini's last performances.
