Director: Sadao Yamanaka
Language: Japanese (subtitled in English)
This new addition to Eureka's The Masters of Cinema Series highlights the work of director Sadao Yamanaka. The set collects his three surviving complete films of the 26 that he made before dying in Manchuria in 1938 at age 28. A humanistic realist in an era when truth-telling could be dangerous, Yamanaka was also a visionary artist who injected new life into often-told stories. Includes fragments from two lost films, as well as a 44-page booklet that features Yamanaka's own writing on cinema.
