"Glorious 39" boasts an excellent cast (Bill Nighy, Eddie Redmayne, David Tennant, Romola Garai and Christopher Lee) put to poor use in a plodding tale of prewar 1939 pro-Nazi intrigue in an aristocratic British family. While the film has some basis in fact regarding Britain's stance toward Hitler before Churchill came along, the plot contrivances and potboiler elements mount until it all seems a bit ridiculous. No wonder it went straight to DVD here.
