Known as "Japan's kitchen," Osaka takes pride in its culinary tradition. However, foodies in Kansai will soon be able to taste foods from further afield.

The International Food Expo Utage, held every four years, will take place at Intex Osaka from April 26 through May 6. The event brings meals, cooks and ingredients from all over the world together in one place.

The exhibition will be divided into different culinary experiences that will take place in their own halls. Japanese food be the focus of the Flavors of Japan Hall and, to keep locals happy, the event will include a Kansai-food related Eat Until You Drop Street Hall. Meals from other parts of the world can be tried in the Flavors of the World Hall, which will also host a beer festival.

For those who still have space left in their stomachs, the Banquet Theme Hall will feature large spreads, a demonstration corner and a cooking contest during which professionals will show off their skills by battling each other. The Participation Theme Hall gives the opportunity for visitors to join in the fun through cooking workshops, a kid's kitchen and restaurant.

There will also be themed food exhibitions at the Company Exhibition Hall, and when attendees need a break from eating, the Utage Theater Hall and Foopie Plaza will both feature dance shows and children's entertainment.

The International Food Expo Utage will be held at Intex Osaka in Suminoe-ku from April 26 through May 6 (10 a.m.-6 p.m., till 5 p.m. on May 6). Tickets are ¥2,000 (¥1,000 for children) at the door, and ¥1,500 (¥750 for children) in advance. For more information, visit www.shokuhaku.gr.jp.
