The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, marks its 60th anniversary this year, and to celebrate it is using its entire four-story space to present a major retrospective of its Japanese modern-art collection.
Showing works from the past century, the exhibition places emphasis on the 1950s, a period when Japanese art transcended genre boundaries and artists collaborated in experimentation and mutual development.
About 300 paintings, sculptures, photographs and video clips related to the 1950s are being shown alongside artworks from other periods of the last century; till Jan. 14.
