This film-noir gangland saga by actor-turned-director Olivier Marchal looks at real-life French gangster Edmond "Momon" Vidal, whose Lyon-based gang pulled off a string of daring heists in the 1970s. The film finds Momon, played with dignity and quiet menace by Gerard Lanvin, in retirement with his family, but the sudden reappearance of his former associate Serge (Tcheky Karyo) pulls him reluctantly back into the game. With a script based on Momon's autobiography, the film feels a bit too smitten with its subject, but it's never less than gripping.
Opens Sept. 15.
