This exhibition from the National Film Center asks visitors to look at film posters from an artistic point of view.
Film posters, which are often designed anonymously and under the strong direction of filmmakers and distributors, are usually considered as pure advertising.
However, there are many visually arresting posters, and the work of artists such as Takashi Kono (1906-1999), Sentaro Iwata (1901-1974) and Tadanori Yokoo (b. 1936) often appear more akin to graphic art than advertising.
The posters chosen for this show illustrate the crossover between the film industry and Japan's modern art scene.
