Popular art in India — which includes advertising posters, postcards, religious painting prints, painted photographs and more — gives us some insight into the cultural and artistic influences of imagery of India.
This show draws together around 190 works from renowned Indian art and cultural historian Jyotindra Jain's private collection, which is well-known and respected in the West. It explores how lithography and photography influenced Indian pop art, and the of role religion in this genre.
Works on display include calendars, match boxes, clothing labels, playing cards, cigarette packaging and film posters. There is also a workshop and lecture by the collector on Nov. 5 and 6; till Nov. 29.
