Exploring new possibilities of expression in lacquerware, this show presents works by Nobuyuki Tanaka, a professor at Kanazawa College of Art, and Natsuki Kurimoto, an associate professor at Kyoto City University of Arts, as well as pieces by 27 rising artists recommended by Tanaka and Kurimoto.
Kurimoto's "The Praying Hand IV," which is on display, was created in 1996, the year after the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake. This piece will be displayed to remember and pray for victims and survivors of the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11.
On Sept. 24 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., there will be a lecture by Tanaka and Kurimoto on new styles of lacquerware (free admission); Sept. 3-Oct. 2.
