Since 1967, Slovakia has hosted the Biennial of Illustration Bratislava (BIB), the world's largest and most prestigious awards event for children's book illustrators. Nominees are selected by an international jury, and the awards have showcased some of the best illustrations from all over the world.
This exhibition presents a collection of works from the 2009 biennial, including 11 winners and eight Japanese artists. As well as the art on display there will be daily workshops, regular storytelling from the illustrated books and gallery talks.
While the exhibition will mainly pay homage to the illustrators, it will also have an array of traditionally hand-painted puppets from former Czechoslovakia — a country of which Slovakia used to be a part of, and renowned for its puppet mastery; till Aug. 31.
