Spring in Japan is a time to forget the winter blues and start to enjoy the warm weather and appreciate the cherry blossoms with a tradition known as hanami.
On April 3, people in Nagoya are in for a treat courtesy of the Nagoya French Society who are organizing a French-style barbecue in Chikusa Ward's Kanoko Park. Local French cuisine experts will be providing guests with an all they can eat and drink buffet with all proceeds going to relief efforts for the victims of the Tohoku-Kanto earthquake. As Japan is still coming to terms with the disaster, this event may be an opportunity to reflect at what is likely to be an all-together more poignant hanami.
The barbecue takes place at Kanoko Park from 11:30 a.m. till 6 p.m. on April 3. Admission costs ¥3,500 (including beer), ¥3,000 (no beer). Admission for children between 12-18 is ¥1,500, free for those under 12. For more information, call (080) 3075-0126 or visit www.nagoyaevents.info.
