When talking to bands from Kyoto, DJ Tomoh's name often comes up. So The Japan Times tracked him down to see what's in his record bag.
Golden oldie: La Bionda — "I Wanna Be Your Lover" (Baby Records). A disco classic. The music video is great, too.
New classic: Arp — "Catch Wave" (Smalltown Supersound). The No. 1 song of the year outside of the clubs. Rising above structuralism and everyday life, it is the hope of all minimalists.
Floor-filler: Duck Sauce — "Barbara Streisand" (Fools Gold). My happiest song now. These may be serious times, but there's no need for serious dance floors.
Must-listen: Hotel Mexico — "It's Twinkle" (Second Royal Records). Indie anthem of 2010. Whether it's performed live or as part of a DJ set, it's sure to get the crowd going.
Tomoh spins at Metro in Kyoto on Dec. 17; Karma in Osaka on Dec. 30; and Nano in Kyoto on Dec. 31. For more information and downloadable mixes, visit www.tomohomot.blogspot.com.
