In April 2000, Tokyo nightclub Womb opened its doors and became one of the cornerstones of Japan's dance-music scene. This weekend, the club brings music fans the third installment of their Womb Adventure event, which adopts the theme of "expansion of reality." Though the club is located in Tokyo's Shibuya area, Womb Adventure will be held at the larger Makuhari Messe venue in Chiba.
"The capacity of Womb for regular parties is limited," says Sabi Takahashi, the club's representative director. "So we've tried different venues for events such as the Womb Cruise and Club Phazon, which were very successful. We then thought maybe we could try our hand at a bigger event, so we chose Makuhari Messe as our venue."
Techno luminary Richie Hawtin is headlining the event this year, which doesn't come as much of a surprise to most Womb Adventure fans. This is Hawtin's third consecutive time taking the helm of the event, but this time it will be under his Plastikman moniker. Plastikman was a pioneer of the dance-music scene in the 1990s, with albums such as "Sheet One," "Muzik" and "Consumed" becoming electronic classics.
