Belgian flower artist Daniel Ost is filling Ikebukuro's Seibu Gallery with a taste of spring. His flower decorations and collaborative works with French crystal makers Baccarat will be on display till March 23. "The most important thing in this exhibition is the exchange of my work with Baccarat," Ost told The Japan Times. He presented a few collaborations with Baccarat in Japan last year, but this time more works are expected to be on show. This exhibition has the aim of creating a European-style elegant space by using Baccarat crystal pieces as a base for the flowers.
Professional flower designer Ost won various international competitions in his 20s. While he has worked for the Belgian royal family since 1990, this creative artist is well known for his unique pieces that integrate European and Japanese culture. Ost has presented his art in various historical buildings all over the world, including Toji, Ninnaji and Kinkakuji temples, which are all UNESCO World Heritage cultural sites in Kyoto.
Ost says he is fond of Japan because of the way people keep in contact with natural cycles. Highlighting the fact that this is his 96th visit, he says, "you can see the special relationship between Japan and me." The Japan Times asked him how many pieces he will present at the exhibition. His reply was "I don't know yet. It depends on our energy."
You can see all Ost's energized pieces at Seibu Ikebukuro's Department Store's Seibu Gallery.
