Over the last few years a new genre has come to dominate dance floors across the globe that combines house music and electro with mash-ups and hip-hop, and on Dec. 22 a global ambassador for the sound, Diplo, will join local DJ duo Dexpistols at Womb. Promoting the party are Dexpistols, who will be celebrating the release of "Lesson.06 'Roctrax Jam.' " The two-CD album will feature music produced by Roc Trax artists, including Dexpistols, and a mix by the duo. Undoubtedly, the Japanese act are heading for bigger things having already supported acts such as Daft Punk, and their move into production will likely see their records appearing in sets by DJs the world over.
The duo see themselves as blurring the boundaries between the rock star and the DJ, so expect plenty of interaction with the crowd, and a record box including tunes from the likes of Daft Punk, Ed Banger artists and local electro/crossover groups such as 80kidz.
Dexpistols will be supported by Thomas Wesley Pentz, AKA Diplo, who gets his DJ name from a childhood fascination with dinosaurs (it's short for diplodocus). Diplo has risen to become one of the most influential DJs in Philadelphia, playing a part in the careers of hip-hop groups from the area such as Spank Rock, and has received acclaim for collaborations with crossover artists such as old flame M.I.A.
