C ycle Mode International 2009 is coming to Tokyo from Dec. 11-13. Whether you are a cycling fanatic or still on training wheels, the anual event is worth checking out as it teaches you pretty much everything you need to know about the carbon-free, fat-burning vehicle.
The event, in its fifth year, is the biggest bicycle-related expo in Japan and is expected to attract more than 50,000 people over three days. It is a chance to see the latest sports-bike models, frames, parts and even cycling fashion. Seminars are scheduled on topics such as how to ride and maintain your bikes. Some lectures feature professional and amateur cyclists, including economist Kazuyo Katsuma.
For many people in attendence, however, the highlight of the expo probably will be test rides offered to visitors.
There will be a children's area, where children can test the latest bicycle models and get cycling tips. On Dec. 12-13, visitors will even be able to ride mountain bikes at Makuhari Seaside Park.
Visitors should be aware that a driver's license or a passport are required to take part in the test rides.
Cycle Mode International will be held from Dec. 11-13 at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba Prefecture. Admission is ¥1,000 for adults if purchased in advance and ¥1,200 at the door.
