We all have something to fear in our lives, whether it's death, the loss of money or natural disasters. But how do we develop these feelings of fear? How can we soften or overcome our experiences of fear? And would alcohol help ease it?
The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan) delves into such questions with its current exhibition "Fear Research: Science in 'Haunted House.' "
Running until June 22, this features not only some of the latest brain-science research findings, but also a "real" haunted house in which visitors can experience fear firsthand through videos and other means.
If you want to know about fear research without too much of the sensation itself, that's fine, too — though it might not stop you from cringing at that blood-curdling screams coming from behind the door!
"Fear Research," which runs until June 22 and is part English, is ¥1,200 for adults and ¥500 for under-19s. For more information, contact Miraikan at (03) 3570-9151 or visit www.miraikan.jst.go.jp To apply to win one of 5 pairs of tickets, send a postcard stating your name, address, telephone number, age and a comment on The Japan Times to: Gakugei-bu, The Japan Times, 4-5-4 Shibaura, Minato-ku, Tokyo 108-0023 by April 30.
