The ninth Tokyo FILMeX will be held in Tokyo from Nov. 22 to 30. The famed international film festival is aimed at presenting new cinematic trends and screening stringently selected films rich in originality and creativity, according to the festival directors.
The main event of the festival is the Tokyo FILMeX Competition, which will present 10 new films and give awards to three of them. The jury for the competition are Teruyo Nogami, a former Kurosawa Production Co. production manager; Tony Leung Ka-fai, a top actor from Hong Kong; Korean film director Song Il Gon; French film critic Isabelle Regnier; and Leon Cakoff, a Brazilian film critic and director.
The movies in the competition include the Israeli film "Waltz with Bashir" by Ari Folman; the Kazakh film "Chouga" by Derezhan Omirbaev; the Chinese film "Survival Song" by Yu Gaung Yi; and the Japanese film "Passion" by Ryusuke Hamaguchi. The awards will be announced at the closing ceremony in Yurakucho Asahi Hall on Nov. 30.
Twelve other movies by prominent filmmakers and five movies by Brazilian director Joaquim Pedro de Andrade (1932-1988) will be shown at Yurakucho Asahi Hall and Cine Quanon Yurakucho 1chome. Another 12 films by Japanese director Koreyoshi Kurahara (1927-2002) will be shown at the National Film Center Cinema 1 in Chuo Ward, Tokyo. Most films will have English subtitles.
Advance tickets for Yurakucho Asahi Hall and Cine Quanon Yurakucho 1chome are ¥1,300. At the door, the price is ¥1,700, or ¥1,300 for students. A triple weekday matinee ticket at Yurakucho Asahi Hall is ¥3,300. At National Film Center 1, no advance tickets are available and door tickets are ¥800 for adults; ¥600 for university, college and high-school students and seniors age 65 and over; ¥400 for elementary and junior-high students; and free for disabled people with one companion.
Yurakucho Asahi Hall is a few minutes' walk from Yurakucho Station (JR Yamanote and Keihin Tohoku lines), or by subway to Ginza or Hibiya stations. Cine Quanon Yurakucho 1chome is one minute from Yurakucho Station. National Film Center 1 is a one-minute walk from Kyobashi Station (Ginza Line) and Takaramachi Station (Asakusa Line.)
