Peter O'Toole — at 75 years old — plays a sprightly elderly actor named Maurice, who is beguiled by the glowing youth of a young woman. His best pal (Leslie Phillips) thinks she is a monster because she's rude and brash. But Maurice is delighted by the freshness of her spirit and body. O'Toole wonderfully embodies the sorrow, charm and wit of an aging man with a refined ease. The film is an elegy of ephemeral life with a spry mix of dry humor and genuine soul.
