Misako & Rosen
Closes in 10 days
Although steeped in realism and the ordinary, the photographs and videos of Yuki Okumura and Will Rogan, now at the Misako & Rosen gallery (www.misakoandrosen.com), are not fully realistic. Okumura explores space and time in videos that make it seem as if people are being teleported or transformed supernaturally, such as one where they emerge out of the thick incense smoke of a Buddhist temple. The simple action of cutting footage renders the everyday into something eerie and humorous. Rogan's works capture everyday "found situations," such as a photograph of a car parked under a house that seems as if it were custom built for the car.
Though the two artists — who have come together for the first time for this show — manipulate reality differently, the results often seem like a single person's works.
