Director: Aki Kaurismaki
Language: Finnish and Russian
The last installment of the so-called "loser" trilogy by celebrated Finnish director Aki Kaurismaki, who is known for his deadpan humor, explores deep loneliness. Koistinen (Janne Hyytiainen), a night watchman in Helsinki, lives a quiet life without any family, friends or girlfriend. Koistinen thinks his luck has changed when he meets femme fatale Mirja (Maria Jarvenhelmi), only to find out he has been framed for a robbery. Kaurismaki depicts the hapless hero in a lighthearted manner, and, in his signature minimalist style, only hints at the faint hope glowing under Koistinen's blank face.
