Italian contemporary dance is not a cultural field very familiar to the Japanese. To put that right, Japan's 4th Skin Arts Network and Italy's own Associazione Culturale Danza Urbana will present a contemporary dance festival "Corpi Altri (Body Other)," to be held at three Tokyo venues June 23-28. The festival will see five dance companies from Japan and four from Italy perform.

"Corpi Altri" is the second installment in a three-year (2006-08) project examining the role of the body in contemporary choreography. Through their different approaches to the body, participants are aiming to create "a new language" in dance. Among the performers, choreographer Luca Nava will bring his Le Gami troupe to Session House on June 24 (7 p.m.), while on the closing night of the festival at Kitazawa Town Hall in Shimokitazawa there will be collaborations between Italian dance troupes and Japanese dancers. Performances also take place at the Italian Institute of Culture (Italia Bunka Kaikan) in Chiyoda Ward.

Admission for all performances is 2,500 yen in advance, 3,000 yen at the door. For more information, visit www.4thskin.com
