"Yokoso! Japan" is the government-led campaign that aims to increase the number of foreign visitors to Japan. As part of the campaign, on the third Friday of every month, it organizes a Japan Night.
The Japan Times has 10 pairs of tickets to give away to readers for the next event in Tokyo on Jan. 19 (7-8:30 p.m.), a demonstration lecture on traditional dances from all over Japan that can usually be seen only for a few days a year at local festivals around the country.
The event takes place at the Asian Culture Center Ginza Salon, near Higashi-Ginza Station on the Hibiya and Asakusa subway lines.
Among the dances to be performed will be the energetic Awa-odori, traditionally performed in and around Tokushima City from Aug. 12-15 during the Bon festival.
To apply for tickets, fax "Yokoso! Japan" at (03) 3915-4358 stating your name and nationality before Jan. 10, mentioning The Japan Times. For more information, call (03) 3915-4621.
