Nov. 30 sees the second British Underground club night, a monthly Tokyo event that aims to introduce new British music to a Japanese audience. With upfront tracks supplied directly by labels in the U.K. and then spun by British and Japanese DJs, organizers are claiming that the event "offers a diverse selection of music for Anglophile ears."
DJs include Yusuke Washizu, founder of Yokohama club Reclash. Between them, the DJs have an extensive collection of music from Britain, where worldwide music trends are often seeded. As well as offering the world The Beatles, The Sex Pistols, Franz Ferdinand, Oasis and The Libertines, Britain was also first to break American acts including Jimi Hendrix, The Strokes and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
British Underground takes place at The Ruby Room, Shibuya, on Nov. 30, 7 p.m. till late. Admission is 1,000 yen. For more information in English or Japanese, visit www.britishunderground.net
