Every November, the volunteer, nonprofit organization Tokyo Theatre for Children present a children's musical at the Tokyo American Club in Nishi-Azabu to give English-speaking children a taste of live theater. Formed in 1974, the troupe has previously staged "Cinderella," "Aladdin" and "Alice in Wonderland" among others.
On Nov. 17-19, the troupe presents an adaptation of the well-known short story by O. Henry, "The Ransom of Red Chief." It follows two con men on the run who arrive in the fictional town of Summit in Alabama and kidnap a young boy with plans to extort a large ransom from his family. The tables soon turn, however, with plenty of plot twists and humor along the way.
"The Ransom of Red Chief" will be performed at Tokyo American Club on Nov. 17 (6:30 p.m.), Nov. 18 (11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.) and Nov. 19 (midday and 4 p.m.).
The nearest stations are Kamiyacho on the Hibiya Line and Roppongi-itchome on the Nanboku Line. Tickets are 3,000 yen (e-mail [email protected] or call [03] 3235-4965).
