The Heinrich Schuetz Choir Tokyo and the Ubiquitous Bach Orchestra will present a concert for audience members to remember their deceased loved ones on Nov. 17 at the Kenzo Tange-designed St. Mary's Cathedral in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo. Titled "Requiem Gathering for the Consolation of Souls," the audience will have the chance to have the names of the deceased printed in the concert's program booklet. The concert's program includes Franz Liszt's "Requiem," conducted by Taro Tanno and performed by an all-male choir accompanied by organ, brass and timpani, and Yumiko Tanno conducting "Musikalische Exequien" (Op. 7 Dresden), a piece composed in 1636 by Heinrich Schuetz (1585-1672). Schuetz is often considered the greatest pre-Bach composer of Protestant music. Most of the pieces he composed were religiously themed.
Those who would like the names of their loved ones printed in the program booklet should send the name of the deceased and their occupation and the sender's name and contact details via telephone ([03] 3970-0585) or fax ([03] 3998-5238). The deadline is Nov. 2 and there is no charge.
The concert will start from 7 p.m. To get to the cathedral, take a bus from JR Mejiro Station and get off at the Chinzanso-mae stop. Reserved seats are 5,000 yen; unreserved seats are 4,000 yen. For more info, call or fax the numbers above.
