The Roppongi-based International House of Japan will hold a concert on Oct. 20 to mark the completion of the renovation of its new hall. The music ensemble Ora-J will perform as part of the IHJ Concert Series, "The Traditional & Contemporary in the Present," that features Japanese music performed by non-Japanese composers.
In addition to selections by Edward Schocker and Byron Au Yong, the program also includes traditional Japanese music and a piece by composer Minoru Miki, who earlier this year composed a series of eight operas that spanned 1,500 years of Japanese history. Miki founded Ora-J in 1998 alongside shakuhachi player Seizan Sakata and koto player Reiko Kimura.
Tickets are 3,500 yen in advance, payable by postal transfer form, account no. 00130-8-68596, The International House of Japan, Inc.
