A string quartet made up of members of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a mini concert on Aug. 18 in Suginami, western Tokyo. The concert program is being kept a surprise.
The event, titled "Japan Philharmonic in Suginami," will be followed by a discussion conducted by the orchestra's Kyoiku Forum on how to get children interested in orchestras.
Panelists taking part in the discussion include Mike Spencer, a violinist and former education manager at the Royal Opera House in London, and London-based musician Kuma Harada.
"Japan Philharmonic in Suginami" takes place at Suginami Kokaido Hall (Small Hall) B2, a 7-minute walk from Ogikubo Station on the JR Chuo Line and Marunouchi subway line off Ome Kaido.
Admission is free, but anyone wishing to attend should complete an online application at www.japanphil.or.jp/news/pdf/festival_20060818.pdf and fax it in advance to (03) 5378-6161. Attendees should bring the faxed form with them to the concert.
