Ever wanted to see Jean-Luc Godard's 1960 blueprint for the French new wave, "A Bout de Souffle," starring an impeccably cool Jean-Paul Belmondo, on the big screen?

Perhaps you missed Johnny Depp give one of his most effective performances a decade ago in Jim Jarmusch's "Dead Man," or want to revisit Harry Dean Stanton and Nastassja Kinksi in Wim Wenders' "Paris, Texas" from 1984. These are three of the 39 classic films being shown at "Bow 30 Film Festival," which runs July 15 through August 11 at Chanter Cine in Tokyo.

Films of two other leading French directors, Robert Bresson and Francois Truffaut, also get an outing. Bresson won the award for Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival for his 1983 work,"L'Argent" (showing July 27, 10 a.m.). Truffaut made his debut with "Les Quatre Cents Coups" which screens July 22/23 at 10 a.m. Films will be screened with Japanese subtitles only.

Tickets are 1,300 yen per screening or 3,000 yen for three films (tel. [03] 3545-3411). Chanter Cine, located at 1-2-2 Yurakucho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, is a short walk from JR Yurakucho Station's Hibiya Exit. For the full schedule (in Japanese), visit www.bowjapan.com/bow30
