Popular Shibuya nightclub Womb will kit itself out in "samurai blue" on June 12 for Japan's opening World Cup game against Australia, and it's inviting football fans of all nationalities to join in. In addition to showing the game live from Germany on a huge 8-meter screen, "Blue Fever 2006" also hosts three hours of live music.

The main focus of the event is, of course, the soccer. If Japan are to advance beyond the opening group phase of the competition, it is vital that Zico's squad gain at least gain a point out of the game. On paper at least, the match-up against the Socceroos looks the most winnable of Japan's group matches -- Japan also plays Croatia and tournament favorites Brazil. Womb's coverage of the game starts from 9:50 p.m.

"Blue Fever 2006" event organizer Russell Campbell aims to create a "stadium atmosphere inside the venue." Bottles of German beer will be sold for 500 yen on the night to make sure the crowd is in full voice. It should also make for a lively atmosphere when the live acts, including Ryo Matsui from the band Brilliant Green and multinational alternative hip-hop act 11*15, perform.
