With Tokyo Video Festival 2006's screening week drawing to a close, Saturday, Feb. 18, marks award ceremony day, when the public will be able to view the festival's prize-winning videos and take part in a discussion.
The ceremony takes place at Shinagawa Intercity Hall, Tokyo. The two winners of this year's top prize, the Video Grand Prize and the JVC Grand Prize, will be selected from a shortlist of 30 works already awarded the Excellence Award.
Tokyo Video Festival started in 1978 and describes itself as the largest video festival in the world. In the past month, the general public has been voting on the 30 works shortlisted by the festival judges and made available for viewing on the JVC Web site.
These votes will be tallied to select the "People Awards" from among the 30 works .
In addition to the works nominated for Excellence Awards, another 100, whittled down by the judges from 2,291 submissions from 35 countries, have been available to the public to view in the last week at Shinagawa Intercity Hall.
These works include those by professional filmmakers, as well as amateurs from around the world. These include a doctor from the United States, a florist from Germany and a reporter from Vietnam.
The 28th Tokyo Video Festival Announcement and Awards Ceremony takes place 1 p.m.-6 p.m., Feb. 18 at the Shinagawa Intercity Hall, 2-15-4 Konan, Minato-ku, Tokyo. Admission is free.
