The biannual international art event Design Festa returns to Tokyo Nov. 26-27 for "two days of crazy art, thousands of talented artists, performances from outer space and heaps of imagination," according to the Design Festa Web site.
In reality, this means 6,000 artists exhibiting original works with 2,600 "freestyle" booths occupying the entire space of the vast West Hall of Tokyo Big Sight in Odaiba. A sprawling event that attracted 50,000 visitors to its 21st edition in May, Design Festa brings together artists from all over the world. In addition to the booths, fashion shows and live acoustic performances can be seen in the Atrium, while live music will take over the Outdoor Stage (previous events have been heavily slanted toward punk, hardcore, and flamboyant haircuts, and this year is likely to be no different). The Projection Room will show films from various genres including animation and experimental.
New to Design Festa is the curiously named "special dimmed lighting area," situated in West Hall 3, that will exhibit multimedia art and lighting fixtures in a penumbral setting.
Design Festa Vol. 22 takes place Nov. 26-27 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at Tokyo Big Sight, 3-21-1 Ariake, Koto Ward. Day tickets can be purchased in advance for 800 yen (1,500 yen for both days) from Ticket PIA or at the door (1,000 yen/1,800 yen).
