As part of TIFF, Nippon Cinema Classics will screen a selection of Japanese movie classics Oct. 25-28 dealing with maternal themes and shown with English subtitles.
Most films will be screened at Le Cinema 1 in Shibuya's Bunkamura.
Oct. 25: "Love for a Mother" (1962, directed by Tai Kato) at Theatre Cocoon; "Yamaneko Reijo" (1948, Kazuo Mori).
Oct. 26: "The Only Son" (1936, Yasujiro Ozu); "A Tragedy of Japan" (1953, Keisuke Kinoshita).
Oct. 27: "Mother" (1962, Mikio Naruse); "Sansho the Bailiff" (1964, Kenji Mizoguchi).
Oct. 28: Special event and closing screening at Theatre Cocoon, Bunkamura, of the 1931 silent movie "Mabuta no Haha (Banba no Chutaro Mabuta no Haha)," narrated by Jun Hamamura.
