The 16th Annual Kishiko International Concert, which features contemporary piano music from China, South Korea and Japan, will be held Oct. 7. Over the past 15 years, concerts have taken place in Seoul, Beijing and Los Angeles, but this year the performance returns to Tokyo for the second successive year.
By assembling a cast of pianists and composers from East Asia, the concert aims to promote international understanding and bring the countries of the participating musicians closer together.
The concert is held under the auspices of the Worldject International Music NPO, a nonprofit organization set up in 2001 by Beijing-born, Tokyo raised musical director Kishiko Kawaguchi.
The programs are as follows: Bang Ja Hurh's "The Deep Darkness Fantasy -- Funeral Bell," performed by Mi Chung Park; Chen Qigang's "Instants d'un Opera de Pekin," "Moonlight over the Spring River" (traditional, arranged by Li Ying Ha and Hu Yin Yue) and Hu Yin Yue's "Butterflies Love Flowers," all performed by Yang Ming; Akira Nishimura's "Mirror of the Stars for Piano," Toshio Akaishi's Recollection's Day for Pianoforte, and Mamoru Fujieda's "Falling Scale No. 2" performed by Reiko Ebisuta.
The concert starts Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. at The Japan Times-Nifco Hall in Shibaura, Tokyo.
