For their latest production, Tokyo International Players present "Arcadia." Written by Tom Stoppard ("Shakespeare in Love,") "Arcadia" spans two centuries in a single room at the Coverley family's country estate.

Arguably Stoppard's masterpiece, the play follows two present-day scholars as they try to unravel past mysteries and discover for themselves what happened at the estate 200 years ago, when "a scandal of sex and bad poetry" erupted among the house guests. The play deftly weaves together the two stories from the present and the past and is packed with surprises.

Director Conor Hanratty is an award-winning translator and director of ancient Greek drama, and has been at the helm of plays by Shakespeare, Beckett and Wilde.

The performance runs Oct. 14-Oct. 16 in the Ballroom Theatre of Tokyo American Club, 2-1-2 Azabudai, Minato-ku, Tokyo (nearest station is Akabanebashi on the Oedo Line). Show times are 7.30 p.m. (Fri. and Sat.) and 2 p.m. (Sat. and Sun.). For booking information, call (090)-6009-4171 or visit www.tokyoplayers.org
