Solstice Music Festival - July 22-24
"Solstice Music Festival 2005" is now underway at Meihou Ski Resort in Meihou-mura, Gifu Prefecture. Music on the main stage starts at 5 p.m. this evening with a four-hour Shpongle DJ set by world-renown psy-miester Raja Rama (who will play again on Saturday night). This event is far from Tokyo (six hours), but the music is NONSTOP until Sunday noon, closing on a combination GMS live-DJ set by Riktam and Bansi. At the gate, it costs 15,000 yen (plus parking, if you're driving). Complete information, including photos of the Meihou resort, timetable and a map can be found at the Solstice Web site. Camping conditions look ideal, but prepare for relentless sun and heat during the day.
Friday 07.22

Live acts Drap-Drop (Elf Music/ G-Echoes), Synphonics (Elf Music) and live DJ Agarbatti (Nasha/Mess), plus DJs El-O (Nasha/Mess) and Aki, a.k.a. Fizzy (Nasha/Relativity/Mu/Trancelink). Upcoming: July 30-31
TPE presents "Aim At Ascension 2005" summer open-air party (Supported by Echo and Nymph) at Tachihara Kogen Campground in Nagano Prefecture. Featured live acts include Space Cat, Sesto Sento, Altom and Gataka, plus DJs Ryo, Ziki and more. See the TPE Web site for more details. Advance tickets are 6,000 yen (7,000 yen at the gate). Parking will cost 2,000 yen. Campgrounds in Nagano are usually pretty cozy. This one is about a four-hour drive up the Kan-Etsu expressway, the best stretch of road leaving Tokyo. Bring your best mosquito protection -- the countryside bugs have been laughing at run-of-the-mill "mushiyoke" spray this season.
